Basic Shea Whipped Body Butter Recipe
Melt shea butter using double boiler method. If you do not have double boiler, substitute heatproof bowl placed over top of pan of boiling water. Remove from heat when shea butter softens and is easily stirred with spoon.
Add carrier oil of your choice. You may use olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, almond oil or vitamin E oil or combination of two or three oils in equal amounts. addition of oils keeps shea butter from hardening when it cools.
Mix in cornstarch and fragrance oil. cornstarch will keep finished product from being too greasy. Transfer to bowl for beating with hand mixer or pour into blender. Whip on highest setting until mixture resembles whipped cream and forms peaks similar to meringue, or about 10 minutes. If mix is not thick enough add additional 10 minutes. You may need to do this few times to achieve right consistency.
Spoon whipped body butter into decorative jars with tight fitting lid. This makes great hand made gift for yourself or someone else. This recipe makes one pound of body butter.
